Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the construct of hope as it relates to living with aphasia. Ten participants (five with aphasia and five family members) answered semi-structured interview questions on the meaning of hope and its place in their lives post-stroke. Using interpretive description, the investigators identified several themes related to defining hope (Hope as Faith) and sustaining hope (the importance of Affirming Relationships and having Goals and making Progress). The results have clinical, training and research implications.
