Abstract

This study compared Constraint Induced Language Therapy (CILT) delivered at two intensity levels to participants with chronic aphasia.  Two groups received 30 hours of CILT, one intensively (CILT-I) over two weeks, one distributed (CILT-D) over ten weeks. Results indicated that for CILT-I, three of four participants showed gains on a discourse task but only one of five showed similar gains for the CILT-D group, consistent with post-treatment standardized tests.   Although the CILT-I group consisted of individuals with more severe aphasia, the CILT-I appeared to yield better results.  For some individuals the CILT-D was also effective and the gains were maintained.
